Reward, when and why

Maybe we have jobs that we are not looking forward to daily. Maybe we work long days in careers we are not excited about anymore. So we come home from such a day and would like to treat ourselves to something, maybe a beer and a bag of chips while binge watching something on TV.

Apart from the health hazards of this type of reward, are we actually doing a disservice to our reward system by rewarding ourselves for doing things we actually don’t like and don’t align with who we truly are or want to be. Could it be that by rewarding yourself for something that you genuinely don’t care for, you are setting yourself up for doing it again the next day and the day after that and so on.

Perhaps we should skip this type of health hazardous and maladaptive cyclical reward system and instead reward ourselves in a healthier manner even for taking daily consistent steps towards our goals and dreams, even if they are baby steps. It could be a cup of coffee after a morning walk or a delicious steak after a grueling session in the gym. How about pushing this idea to the limit and rewarding yourself with a gym session or walk after doing a task that will move you in the direction of your business or financial goals. This way you can also chain link good habits together, habits that you can see yourself doing day in and day out in your dream life.
