My first comic art watercolor of 2023, near the end almost 2024. Started with a pencil sketch, then watercolor finishing with a little brush pen. Some of the process video is on my youtube channel.
It has been quite a process trying to find a medium and style that works within my schedule and desire to finish more artwork. I have tried 3D modelling, sculpting and digital painting and although I genuinely love art and design in all its forms, but this method allows me to have something finished in 2 – 4 hours which I desperately need while I work through more polished digital paintings over 3D renders of scenes and models that take days if not weeks. In the interim this type of work gives me a small win more frequently and sometimes we need that extra bit of motivation from wherever we can get it.
The second benefit is that it is a physical traditional piece of art that I could sell for a small amount and make digital print copies of. In a commercial sense this has greater benefits as the prints could sell multiple times and the original could become more valuable at a later date. I could even do a pencil sketch first and then trace and paint over the copy. This would give me yet another traditional piece of art that I could also sell as well as make prints of. And why not a page of thumbnail sketches before the final pencil. The whole could be sold as a bundle. These ideas are for increasing commercial viability as an artist.
